To avoid the potential of a dangerous car crash and personal injury, drivers on the road are required to be vigilant for not only other drivers, but pedestrians as well. People walking on roads who do not have the relative safety of a car can be seriously injured or killed if they are struck by a car. In recent news, these dangers were again highlighted after a Lafayette pedestrian was killed in a car crash.
The man was killed early on the morning of April 20 as he was walking near an intersection. Police say the 33-year-old man was struck by a car, and the person responsible left the scene of the accident. When officers appeared on the scene, they determined the man had sustained injuries consistent with being struck by an automobile.

Just like on roadways, caution is required when operating boats on the water in order to avoid serious accidents. On April 14, a recreational boating accident claimed the lives of two people in Louisiana. The victims were navigating a 36 Skater speed boat, and the accident occurred close to the Port of Iberia. The two people killed in the recreational boating accident were father and son.
Both were members of a local boating club and owned a camp where they often drove their powerboats. The accident is still under investigation by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. They are attempting to reconstruct the accident in order to determine the factors behind it. Right now, there are no known reasons for the crash occurring. Although they were in a speed boat, investigators are not sure whether speed played a role in the crash.

A car accident is bad enough. However, when the car accident is caused by drunk driving and causes a fatality, the results can be even more tragic, especially since the accident may have been easily avoided. A Deville woman was tragically killed on April 12, and the man who caused the accident has since been accused of drunk driving in connection with the fatal incident.
The accident happened on Louisiana Highway 115 around 10:50 p.m. in Deville. The alleged drunk driver was driving a Ford pickup truck southbound when he struck the 66-year-old pedestrian, who had been standing near the southbound lane. The victim was taken to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria after the accident, but she did not survive her injuries.

A friendly outdoor day of boating turned into a tragedy for a 22-year-old Louisiana outdoorsman. Two friends went out on a frogging trip when a boating accident occurred. During the trip, the 14-foot aluminum-hull boat apparently struck something in the water. The boat began taking on water, and both men jumped out and attempted to swim to shore. The accident has stunned the community of Lafourche and left his family and loved ones grieving.
The boating accident happened in the early morning hours of March 26. The men jumped out of the boat, but only one made it back to shore. The other remained missing until March 27, when his body was recovered after a massive search effort. His friend told police that he yelled out for him and searched for him for about three hours. He estimated the time based upon when the boat crash occurred and when he was able to flag down another boater who happened to be passing his way.

When poor weather is cited as a contributing factor in a deadly car accident it can be difficult to determine who is really at fault. An investigation of all the facts and circumstances surrounding the accident is often necessary to ultimately place responsibility. But every time an individual gets behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, they assume a duty of reasonable care for other people sharing the road. Also, Louisiana law requires drivers to turn their headlights on and reduce their speed when inclement weather is involved. A March 9 car accident in Ibberville Parish, east of Lafayette, provided a grim reminder of the care that drivers must take when driving in poor weather.
A 19-year-old was killed in a two-vehicle crash as she was traveling southbound on LA Highway 411 at about 9:20 a.m. She lost control of her vehicle while negotiating a curve in the roadway. Her vehicle rotated over the center line of the highway into the path of a northbound car. The second vehicle struck the right side of the teenager's car.
